What it's about:

Addie and her sister are about to embark on an epic road trip to a friend's wedding in rural Scotland. The playlist is all planned and the snacks are packed.

But, not long after setting off, a car slams into the back of theirs. The driver is none other than Addie's ex, Dylan, who she's avoided since their traumatic break-up two years earlier.

Dylan and his best mate are heading to the wedding too, and they've totalled their car, so Addie has no choice but to offer them a ride. The car is soon jam-packed full of luggage and secrets, and with four hundred miles ahead of them, Dylan and Addie can't avoid confronting the very messy history of their relationship...

Will they make it to the wedding on time? And, more importantly... is this really the end of the road for Addie and Dylan?

What I thought:

When I picked up The Flatshare, I was a little dubious about it as it's not the genre I usually go for. I love a RomCom movie but books of a similar genre can make me a bit nauseated sometimes. That being said, I fell in love with it. The writing, the characters, everything was perfect! The Switch ticked all those boxes for me too. When I read the concept for The Road Trip, I was sold on that alone but unfortunately, for me, I just didn't click as much with this one! I don't know if it's because the romance was a little too heavy but there was a lot of talk about desire and a very thin line between something being sweet and making me roll my eyes...maybe if it was written as a third person narrative, I might have been able to enjoy it more but Dylan just made me want to vomit; it was too much.

The narrative is split between Addie and Dylan and also between past and present. I enjoyed the 'Then' narrative to a point but definitely preferred the present day storyline. After they left France, I didn't really like Addie and Dylan as a couple and they just felt too young and unrelatable. The distance between them splitting up and the wedding seemed as if it should be more than 18 months because in that time they managed to come across as being about 10 years older...

Aside from that, it was a very easy read that I whizzed through and I'm very positive that most people will fall in love with Dylan and Addie! Beth also tackles some big issues in this one, which I did enjoy, but they came in quite late and I'd have liked to see these storylines be developed a little bit more. Also, Marcus, *eye roll* (if you know, you know!).
